Most people do not come away from Carrie overawed by the anti-religion theme. That is primarily the response of people who COME to the film with that bias already in place(i.e., liberals). Carrie's mother is clearly not a typical Christian(or a typical ANYTHING, for that matter). She is deranged. We all know people of faith. I live in the Southeast...most people here still identify as Christian....and NOBODY behaves this way. What most people DO find relatable is the high school dynamic...the cruelty merely for the sake of cruelty...the ridiculous 'status' that certain people hold...even pathetic fawning from the teachers(which Carrie captures to perfection)...I really don't think most Christians will be offended by this movie. I am a Christian, and it is EASILY one of the greatest movies I've ever seen. On the other hand, if you harbor any naive notions about the inherent goodness of young people...well, this film will MERCILESSLY disabuse you of that...

However, the old Universal blu ray, for all its faults, didn’t have the vertical scratches, which is why I kept it instead of buying this (and now Arrow is bringing out a 4K disc that I guess will have the same scratches).

For me, I have always loved THE GIANT CLAW, despite its silly puppet monster bird! Growing up in the 50's makes this all more magical for me, a simpler time, NO CGI for me! Plus I'm a big fan of Jeff Morrow and who could not love Mara Corday?? Fun film on a rainy nite with popcorn 🍿, so sit back n enjoy!!

Psychologically -- his first three films are characterized as his "father trilogy" -- Ang Lee had "father issues". His father was the principal of his high school in Taipei; and the conflict was over the fact that Ang wanted to do film, whereas Chinese culture puts actors and such in the same position as prostitutes. In other words, his father wanted him to choose a career more likely to guarantee security and stability.

That may explain the "rebellion" against external "control".

Hold everything. "Soundtrack was excellent"? The soundtrack was a chaotic smattering of 50's until 2000 pop, country and Christian artists. It's completely jarring, doesn't fit the mood of any scenes, and overshadows the dialogue constantly.

Also the acting was awful. Cardboard, dry, unemotional and right off script.

A miserable experience biting my tongue to watch this with my daughter who loves it. So instead all I have is the internet.

This was easily one of worst reviews I have ever read. First of all, it's not Ana's daughter who does, it's the neighbors kid. You'd know this is you weren't jizzing yourself over yourself. The mall in the original also served as a sanctuary... I could go on but fuck. This is just a bad review.

Wow. Probably one of the worst reviews I have ever seen. I'm guessing the reviewer is suffering from the Dunning-Kruger effect.

Folks, it's a classic movie filmed from a child's perspective. If you enjoy sci-fi you will enjoy this movie. Children will enjoy this the most as there is nothing more terrifying than the possibility of losing one's parents.

Good restoration, too...even with the stock footage.

This is probably one of the worst reviews on any movie I have ever seen. The entire movie's story revolves around how a boy sees something incredible and, due to his being well known by his community as an honest kid, they investigate his story and discover it has credibility.

Turning the story into another anti-American rant is bizarre. As a child watching this film I was terrified, extraterrestrials and losing one's parents to them. Also uplifting as the child then becomes instrumental in saving the world. Finally, just when you feel good about what occurred you find out it may be just starting.

The movie is about the struggle of being a child. The story was filmed entirely from the child's perspective. It's a classic movie with an outstanding restoration and should be enjoyed by anyone who enjoys a good, solid story...stock film or not.

Apparently delusional socialists suffering the Dunning-Kruger effect don't like it. That's what I learned from this story critique.

Ha! I barely know either. I always stick with the first track in the menu, but since Hong Kong swayed between national dialects AND everything is dubbed anyway no matter the language, it hardly matters in the end. Fidelity is close enough on each track to make noticeable difference, but I also only briefly swapped between them to check. Safe bet? Mandarin usually syncs up, and won't make the post-dub obvious.

Overall the UHD is an improvement. But there are issues with the new color timing. Some shots are not matched, oversaturated especially in the reds and dark in the mid tones. It changes the feel of the film and makes it quite moody. This it is supposed to be light Christmas movie. I'd much rather have seen the original color treatment with an uptick in resolution.

I had never seen The Running Man when The Hunger Games came out in 2012, but I cannot hear "Hunger Games" without remembering a couple of my movie-buff friends constantly talking about "It's just The Running Man remade for YA and kids!!!"

They had not read the books or yet-seen the movie (I had not ever heard of it prior to the movie release).

Now I understand.

It was fun understanding it a little more when I finally saw a few mentions of it as The Hunger Games sequels released, and other, notable papers\websites\etc mentioned The Running Man inspiration and\or just bringing back a kind of related memory.
